Camille's Progress Photos In Reversing Her Scoliosis
After Only 45 Days Of Doing Functional Patterns 3-5 Times A Week
Hello everyone, my name is Camille Heard. I am 32 years old and have been dealing with scoliosis since age 13.
I would consider my scoliosis to be moderate.
During my younger years as an athlete, I had occasional pain in my right upper back, but nothing too severe.
However, as I entered my late twenties, I stopped playing sports and moving my body in athletic ways, and primarily ran long distances to work out.
During this time, I lost a lot of muscle mass and began to experience chronic back pain in my lower left back.
The pain became so severe that I had to stop running altogether.
I began to turn my focus to yoga and build my flexibility in hopes that it would lessen my chronic lower back pain.
Nothing seemed to work. I was miserable sitting, standing, and laying down.
I began to notice that the lower left side of my back was chronically tight, while the lower right side was severely weakened due to my scoliosis curvature and my lack of athletic activity.
This led me to research different training methods to muscle build specifically for scoliosis, and I came across the Functional Patterns discipline.
Since I started my Functional Patterns journey with Ryan, my back pain has dramatically reduced.
My back visually looks straighter, I feel stronger, and I've become so much more conscious of how my body moves through space.
A huge bonus from working with Ryan, also helped correct my extreme knock-knees, which caused chronic foot pain and plantar fasciitis issues!
Ryan has been an excellent and attentive trainer that coaches based on my body's specific needs.
While I believe you can get great benefits from general Functional Patterns practice, working with Ryan ensures that we are focusing on movements and corrections that are very specific to my body.
Ryan is also incredibly knowledgeable and shares the "why" behind different techniques and exercises we work on.
This is not only reassuring, but essential to understanding how to course correct your body movements in the long term for sustained benefits.
Even though I am still early in my FP journey, I see the benefits & encourage anyone that's interested to give it a try!
Our customized in-person or virtual programs are designed to correct your structure first, which will lead to sustainable weight loss and toned muscle mass over time.

If your spine and hips are compressed, your body will hold onto fat to protect itself.

Taken off of all Rheumatoid Arthritis medications
Prior to beginning working out with Heath, I felt tired and sluggish much of the time. I specifically had joint pain in multiple joints and was being treated for sero-negative rheumatoid arthritis. I was unable to walk around my house without shoes due to foot pain. Also, I was a “few" pounds heavier than my normal and my clothes did not fit comfortably.
Since starting Functional Patterns training I have noticed many specific things. I have no joint pain and have come off of all RA medications. This is significant as I have struggled with joint pain for decades. My feet no longer hurt because my feet and ankle position has become stronger and I think about correct positioning all the time. While weight loss was not really my goal, I have lost weight and decreased two clothes sizes. My. Energy level is better and I am able to correct posture and body position on the go throughout my day.
"How did you feel about your training or fitness journey before starting with Cleveland Biomechanics, and how do you feel now?”
I have enjoyed many fitness regimens in the past and have had some degree of success with many. However, none kept my attention for very long and I found myself “falling off the wagon” after some period of time. Functional Pattern training is endlessly interactive, individualized and challenging. There is no THERE; the path is the goal.
The aspect of Functional patterns training approach that stood out to most is the individualized approach. I appreciate that my workout is tailored to my specific functional issues. Workouts are more efficient due to this individualized approach and results are more readily apparent.
A second aspect that really stood out to me is how the training is built up session by session. This really requires a commitment to the training approach because you can't just get it in a day or week or month.
